Yesteryear actor Poornima and grandmother of actor Emraan Hashmi passed away late Wednesday night.
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhattt tweeted, "Poornima my aunt who enriched my life with her generosity passed away moments ago! Poornima is Emraan Hashmi's grandma.'' Poornima had been in the hospital for a few days. Earlier in the day Bhatt had tweeted, "My aunt Poornima, the first star of our family & who happens to be Emraan Hashmi's grandmother has entered thesunset moments of her life.'' Speaking to TOI Bhatt said, "It is so ironical. On 15th August, 2003, Emraan Hashmi the actor was born. He completes a decade in showbiz today. But this was possible because of his Grandma.''
The late veteran actress was a popular heroine in Hindi films from late 40s to 50s. She appeared in many films including Patanga (1949), Jogan (1950), Sagai (1951), Jaal (1952), and Aurat(1953). She acted in more than 80 odd films, including a role in Ajay Devgn starrer Phool Aur Kaante, and the role of Sanjay Dutt's on screen grandmother in Naam.
