Exclusive – Emraan Hashmi on Ungli, Mr. X, Shraddha, Kareena, Kangana

In an exclusive interview with us, Emraan Hashmi talks about Ungli, Mr. X, working with Shraddha Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt and Karan Johar

Q. This is the first time you are working with Dharma Productions, so how was it working with them?
Emraan- The environment is pretty much same in all productions houses but the way they function , the way Rensil functions is very different and very chilled out. I have never shot for more than 8 hours while shooting with them but there are some production houses which make us shoot for more than 12 hours. Although it was spread over a longer period of time but as a company Dharma gives the film its due and does not interfere where as completely supports the director financially.

Q. Did you get any inputs from Karan Johar?
Emraan- No, not as far as story or way it is treated. It is completely Rensil’s baby but as far as other things go like the music, there we had Karan’s expertise getting it. He got us a great music be it Dance Basanti or Pakezaa.

Q. Dance Basanti has become a rage, so how was it shooting with Shraddha?
Emraan- It was great. Shraddha is a great dancer and people have been complimenting our chemistry. The song is been choreographed by Ceasor and we searched for a long time for this song. As soon as we got this song, we knew it will be a big hit and the result is here. This is my introduction song in the film.

Q. Could you tell us something about your character in the film?
Emraan- The characters name is Nikhil. He is someone who has a very mysterious past and he comes into the gang after the second gag of the film. You will get to know the reason why he becomes a part of the gang once you watch the film.

Q. You are working with Kangana again after Gangster, so was there any kind of pressure while working together?
Emraan- This is a kind of film where there is not much scope for romance. It is a film where 5 people fight against the system. Gangster was a love story and Raaz was horror which had love story as one of its plot. So over here Kangana and I have done the best we could do. We can’t do more than what is supposed to be in the script.

Q. How was it working with the entire ensemble cast?
Emraan- It was great, I have worked with Kangana and Randeep before. The new kids Angad and Neil are fantastic. I am working with Sanju for the first time and I have admired his work since a long time. We had a couple of film which were supposed to start but things later on didn’t work so it was great working with him. We all had fun time as a gang and it was great fun working with Sanju too.

Q. Would you like to do a full fledged film with Shraddha Kapoor?
Emraan- I would love to do a film with her. If it is a film which has a good story and justifies both of us being together I would love to do a film with her.

Q. Was there any specific research you had done for your character in the film?
Emraan- It is not that kind of film where it demands too much research and we being a citizen of country know what is going on around us so there was no need to research.

Q. What about your next film Mr X? The first look of the film generated quite a lot of buzz.
Emraan- You know people are judging the film after looking at the first look. But the film is not in that space that look is there for just 10 minutes in the film. It is the look before the character becomes Mr X, It is a film where a lot of bad things have happened to this man and unfair things happened to him. Suddenly this man gets some super power where he becomes invisible and he can be seen only in certain kind of light. After becoming invisible, he decides to take on all the bad guys. There is a lot of VFX and 3D and it is a completely different kind of science fiction film. I would call this as 21st Century’s Mr India. It brings in a darker, more edgier and naughtier kind of Mr India.

Q. Mr X was supposed to release in January initially, but later on got postponed to April. So what is the reason behind the delay?
Emraan- We thought the special effects will be done by January but it is not just erasing someone when they go invisible. There is a lot of particle effect which makes the scene look stunning. So hopefully we will be done with it soon and we should release in April or May.

Q. Did the delay of Ungli frustrate you?
Emraan- Yes there were a lot of problems faced by us but eventually if a film is made well the audiences will watch it and even enjoy them. They see the final product and not the fact that it is a delayed film.

Q. Are there any plans to work with Kareena now?
Emraan- Hopefully yaar. If there is a script which demands us to work together I would love to.
