What is that one thing you expect from a Emraan Hashmi film? Well, certainly it has to have the best of music. Raja Natwarlal on that front fares decently as an entertaining album. Composed by débutante Yuvan Shankar Raja, the son of legendary south composer Ilaiyaraaja, the album is sufficiently good.
Dukki Tikki – Raja Natwarlal Music Review
The song ‘Dukki Tikki’ is a fast paced number that gets even more high spirited once the vocals of Mika Singh are added to it. With a good use of mixed instruments, the peppy number has the quality to hook you at least for the first time you hear it. It is one of those tracks that may not enter your playlists but you will enjoy listening to it if it is played at any random hour. Dukki Tikki is somewhat like ‘Gandi Baat’, although the latter became a sensation, this one may become the poplar number that plays on the Radio.
Tere Ho Ke Rahenge – Raja Natwarlal Music Review
One of the regular romantic numbers, this one has two versions. The original song is sung by Shweta Pandit and the reprise is sung by Arijit Singh. Once again the song may be ordinary with lyrics, but the music transitions are good enough. If you are familiar with Ilaiyaraaja’s style of music, it is easy to realize that the son is truly inspired from his father. With Arjit Singh becoming the recipe for hit music these days, the reprise version in his vocals is equally good although the slower version of Shweta’s vocals touched me more.
Namak Paare - Raja Natwarlal Music Review
This track seems to be one of the item numbers that are pushed into movies. There is nothing much impressive about this track. The musical arrangements are ordinary and the vocals of Mamata Sharma already frame pictures of her previous item songs while listening to this. Lyrically too, the song is not rich enough. This seems an odd man out in the album.
Kabhi Ruhani Kabhi Rumani - Raja Natwarlal Music Review
Benny Dayal is an excellent singer and he shows his versatility with this track. Kabhi Ruhani Kabhi Rumani is a soulful track with a Sufi feel. The musical arrangements are commendable. And this song has the potential to enter your playlist.
Flip Your Collar Back - Raja Natwarlal Music Review
Another Benny Dayal track, this one will not impress you much. Even though the title ‘Flip Your Collar Back’ may sound interesting, there is nothing enjoyable about this one. The track has a lot of variations and lacks connectivity which makes you forget the original tune of the song towards the end of it. This is one of those songs that you may listen to accidentally once but never play it again.
The Last Word – Raja Natwarlal Music Review
Overall an entertaining album, Raja Natwarlal is good enough album for a newbie composer in Bollywood. The songs may not become the year’s chartbusters but on an individual level, there may may be more takers for these songs. Going by the enriching versatility in the use of musical instruments, for music lovers there is something new to listen to. I am going with a 3/5 for this album.
